Persona 4 Fighter May Have Original Fighters
Atlus and Arc System Works' Persona 4 The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena fighting game has characters from Person 4 and Persona 3. But it may also have original characters as well.

Arc held a stage event for the game at the Tokyo Game Show yesterday. In attendance were Arc prodcuer Toshimichi Mori, Arc director Takumi Iguchiya, Atlus producer Katsura Hashino, and Atlus director Kazuhisa Wada.

Mori teased that some big character reveals could be on the way, admitting that even he was surprised with some of the character choices. He also hinted that there may be original characters.

The developers also discussed how the project came to be, reiterating that the game is not just farmed out to Arc System Works, but is being developed cooperatively between Atlus and Arc.

Persona 4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena Gets Second Trailer, Introduces Two New Characters
Atlus released today a second, upgraded trailer of Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena. While the video is quite similar to the first, released a few days ago, it introduces two new characters: Tatsumi Kanji and Yukiko Amagi.
You can head past the cut to see the full trailer, while you try to repeat the title of the game over and over very fast. I dare you.[2º VIDEO EN EL HILO]

New Screenshots, Art and Information About Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena Revealed
Atlus revealed today a batch of news screenshots and art of the upcoming fighting game developed by Arc System Works Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, to be released on PS3 and Xbox 360. The pictures (that you can enjoy beyond the cut) showcase mainly the two characters revealed a few days ago in the upgraded trailer of the game: Tatsumi Kanji and Yukiko Amagi.
In addition to that, Atlus shared some new info on the fighting mechanics present in the game: Characters will be able to summon their Persona, that has an increased range of attack and different effects than their normal attacks. There will be an SP gauge, that grows while attacking and parrying, and SP can be spent in order to execute Mortal Attacks.
Finally characters will be able to perform their Awakening when their hits points are low, increasing the growth of the SP bar and unlocking the ability to execute even more deadly attacks.

Naoto, Teddie confirmed for Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena
Naoto Shirogane and Teddie will be in Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena (in case you didn’t already assume), the game’s official site has revealed.

Naoto will fight with her Persona Sukuna-Hikona, and Teddie wit his Persona Kintoki-Douji.

The website leaves three fighters left to be unveiled.

Persona 4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena Adds Two More Guests From Persona 3
Aigis from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 was revealed to be one of the playable characters when Atlus unveiled Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka.

The demon fighting android will be joined by Akihiko Sanada and Mitsuru Kirijo. Both characters have new outfits. Mitsuru has a black leotard and Akihiko is shirtless. Famitsu confirmed both Persona 3 characters are in Arc System Works’ fighting game too.

How did these characters enter the TV world? We should find out before Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena makes its arcade debut in spring 2012. A console version is slated for release in summer 2012.

New Information and Screenshots about Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena Released
Today Atlus released some new information and screenshots about the upcoming PS3/Xbox 360 fighting game Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena.
First of all two new characters have been officially introduced, and despite the title of the game, they’re actually both from Persona 3: the beautiful rapier-wielding student council president Mitsuru Kirijo and the powerful captain of the boxing club Akihiko Sanada. Both join the cast in an infiltration mission to recover a stolen item. They will appear in the game together with their Persona Artemisia and Caesar.
New Information have also been shared about the gameplay. The UI has been detailed: the Burst Gauge is near the lifebar, showing when the option is available. The Persona Gauge is under the lifebar. The SP Gauge is at the bottom, and increases when a character hits an enemy or successfully guards. The Status Gauge (on top of the SP one) shows special conditions that can affect a character due to special attacks.
One of the most interesting elements of the game is that each character can attack with his Persona, but that’s not all there’s to it. Each Persona also has it’s own lifebar (the Persona Gauge), so it will be a viable tactic to actually attack the Persona. When the lifebar of a Persona is depleted, it cannot be used in the battle anymore, leaving the character much weakened and vulnerable to attack.

Persona 4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena’s Awakening Unlocks Super Moves
Every character in Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonka Arena has a comeback move. When you’re low on HP, your character’s portrait will do a cut-in and trigger awakening mode. This bumps your max SP up to 50 (that’s the gauge for Persona attacks) and unlocks your ultimate attack.

Yu Narukami teams up with his persona, Izanagi, for Cross Cutter, which has both of them strike an enemy with their swords. Yosuke Hanamura’s awakening move is Sukujaka, which increases his speed on the battlefield. Chie can make meteors rain on enemies at a 45 degree angle with Agneyastra and Yukiko can shoot a giant fireball straight forward when she casts Agidyne. For more about these awakening attacks check out our Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena hands on.

Kanji’s super move loosely the Xun Fighting Style Killing Blow smacks his opponent with a folding chair and sends them flying. Naoto Shirogane’s awakening attack is Hold Up! and she opens fire on the other player when you use it. Akihiko Sanada from Persona 3 has Maziodyne, a supercharged spell with a thunder attribute. Mitsuru Kirijo can cast Mabufudyne, a powerful ice spell. Aigis’ awakening, Great Shield of the Goddess, covers her with Athena’s (her persona) shield as she rams an enemy. Teddie’s super move Kumata’s Big Circus makes Teddie grow and hit his opponent with an unblockable attack.

Famitsu also revealed a few of the game’s stages. You can fight outside Yasogami High School, the school gate, the music room, the gymnasium, and the Mayonaka TV Entrance. All of the announced stages so far are from Inaba.

Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena comes out for arcades in spring 2012. Index has a console version planned for summer 2012.

Persona 4 Arena Coming to States Summer 2012! Pre-Orders Up Now!
Well ladies and gentlemen the moment we have been waiting for. Atlus and Arc System Works collaborative fighting game Persona 4: Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena renamed to simply Persona 4: Arena for the states is officially coming to PS3′s and Xbox 360′s this summer!

We figured it was coming to the states but it was a question of when rather than if. The game is already out in Japan on arcades and a console release in the summer as well so it’s good to know we won’t be far behind our Japanese counterparts.

The game, which is a combined effort between Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei team and Blazblue and Guilty Gear creators Arc System Works, is a fighting game with characters from Persona 4 and a few from Persona 3 going at each other. There is a story mode and the game is considered canon taking place after the events of the fourth game.

I was a little disappointed by the roster and I’m hoping for a few extra characters in the console release (C’mon Adachi) but that’s just me being greedy. What I expect is a neat story mode and a complex fighting system because those Arc System guys make some really tricky fighting games.

Persona 4 Arena Out This Summer For Xbox 360 and PS3
Atlus has just announced that a new fighting game, based on the RPG series, will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 this summer. Titled Persona 4 Arena, it is developed in partnership with Arc System Works.

No hard information about the game was given, aside from the fact that it will use ‘gorgeous, hand-drawn, high definition 2D anime-style fighters and colorful, over-the-top special effects to bring to life characters from the acclaimed, highly popular Persona 3 and Persona 4. Backed up by an original, hardcore fighting engine from one of the most respected 2D fighting game developers in the industry, Persona 4 Arena represents the biggest, most noteworthy expansion of the esteemed series to date.’

We’ll post more news about the game as it is announced. In the meantime, here is the tentative box art for the game and a link to the official website.

Atlus comments on Persona 4 Arena voice cast
If you’re a fan of Persona 4 and have seen the latest tutorial clip for Persona 4 Arena, you probably noticed the shift in voice actors for Teddie. Atlus issued an official statement on the switch in a response on the PlayStation Blog, and added that changes to Teddie’s voice actor in Persona 4 Arena does not exactly indicate changes in Persona 4 Golden.

“Persona 4 Arena, being a fighting game with one of the most substantial story modes the genre has yet seen, represents one of the most ambitious recording projects in Atlus history,” said Atlus PR and sales manager Aram Jabbari. “Every effort was made to retain the fantastic talents of the Persona 3 and Persona 4 voice casts, who were responsible for making those roleplaying games so memorable.

“In a couple cases, however—including Teddie, as noticed by fans—and despite our best efforts, circumstances mandated that changes be made. We’re confident in the quality of the final English dub and ask fans to reserve judgment until they can see—or in this case, hear—how each character has been brought to life within the game’s full context.

“Any changes for Persona 4 Arena with regards to the voice cast *do not necessarily indicate* changes for Persona 4 Golden.”

Persona 4 Arena is due for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this summer. Persona 4 Golden is due for PlayStation Vita this fall.
